Valuations pending

The Valuation Department would issue new values for at least eight local authority areas in Canterbury and the West Coast during the current financial year, the Christchurch branch manager (Mr V. R. Aitken) said yesterday. Lyttelton Borough will be the first to receive new values. These will be issued in August, although they will not be used for rating purposes.

Mount Herbert, where the majority of inspections of properties have been completed, will receive new values in September. Oxford County, where some progress on inspections had been made, will have new values in October.

Field staff are now working in Riccarton Borough; values will be issued in November. Valuers started work in Akaroa county at the beginning of this week; new values will be released next March. Valuers are well advanced with field work in Timaru city and new values should be available by October. Rural staff are working in Geraldine County to have new values available by next March. On the West Coast an inspection of Runanga has almost been completed; values will be issued next October. New valuations for Hokitika will be released next February, but work has yet to start there.
