Dr Jobberns

Sir,—What a joy to read of honour bestowed where it is due! Dr Jobbems has long been remembered by those who attended his lectures since the early W.E.A. days. Did he not organise a large meeting in the Civic Theatre to save the environmental beauty of Worcester Street and Christchurch trees? He also at times demonstrated on a map of New Zealand, surrounded by what he called “immunity lines,” our freedom from any diseases and pests, which, alas he predicted would invade us with the rapid growth of air line traffic. He should be elected an honorary adviser on preservation of what we still have left of healthy, lovely surroundings which many authorities will not fully appreciate. Planners would be less likely to upset things if a true geographer were consulted.—Yours etc., R. M. ZELLER. June 9, 1971.
