100 more cells

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 9. Prisoners, supervised by tradesmen, have begun to reroof parts of Mount Eden Prison burned out in the 1965 riots. The meh are working on the north wing, and when that is completed they will move to the east wing. The reroofing will make about 100 more cells available in the prison. The former Minister of Justice (Mr Hanan) said after the 1965 riots that both wings would be demolished with prison labour. In April this year, soon after more rioting at the prison, the Minister of Justice (Mr Riddiford) announced that the wings would be reroofed and renovated in order to bring all available cells into use as soon as possible.
