(N.Z. Press Association)

TAURANGA, June 8. Several thousand acres were under water today in the Te Puke area following 12 inches of rain over the last five days. In what has been described as the worst floods in the area for more than three years, about 4000 acres are under water in the Kaituna swamp and several farms in the area of Bells Road, Papamoa, and Kaituna Road, near Te Tumu, are almost submerged. A' spokesman for the Bay of Plenty Catchment Commission at Te Puke said today that the Kaituna River was running more than seven feet above normal at Te Mata! and dropping only very slowly. Other rivers in the Te Puke area were also well up, but how that the rain had stopped they were also dropping. At Bells Road today water was receding, but several farms were still badly flooded with some hay sheds partly submerged and fences under water in places.
