Presbyterian budget cut

Presbyterian parishioners in New Zealand were authorised to spend more money this year than the General Assembly budget had allocated, the Christchurch Presbytery was told on Tuesday evening. Parishes were authorised to spend a total of $629,000. The budget allocation was $565,000. In a report by the General Assembly finance committee, a meeting of the presbytery was told that $629,000 was set as the budget a year ago, but parish contributions were short by $60,000 with three weeks of the financial year left As a result expenditure for the year to June 30 had been cut by $lOO,OOO. The convener of the committee (Mr J. R. Buttle) said that expenditure in the next financial year would be $650,000. Parishioners needed to contribute an average of 20c a week more next year if the 15 per cent increase in the [budget was to be met, he I said.
