Lamb question in Commons
(N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, June 9. New Zealand was making the most strenuous efforts to find new markets for her lamb, a British Minister, Mr Anthony Stodart, assured a questioner in Parliament yesterday. Mr Stodart, Parliamentary Secretary at the Agriculture Ministry, described as admirable the spirit of New Zealand on this matter in the light of Britain’s attempt to join the Common Market. A Labour member, Mr Andrew Faulds, had said New Zealand should think of providing sheep exports to other nations. He cited unfulfilled demands for meat in Iran and in Middle Eastern Arab countries. The Minister had earlier said that Britain’s share of New Zealand’s lamb exports in 1970 was 86.31 per cent, compared with 88.7 per cent in 1969.
