FIRE IN KAIAPOI FACTORY

Damage estimated at more than $2OOO was done by a fire at the premises of Patience and Nicholson, N.Z., Ltd, Kaiapoi, at 1.15 p.m. yesterday. A spark from an overhead drill started the fire in the oil ducting system leading from the primary grinding plant to the exterior cooling system. This was the third fire in the oil ducts.

Two units of the Kaiapoi Volunteer Fire Brigade answered the call and remained for about an hour.

The main electrical gear in the factory was not affected, and production is not expected to be hampered for more than a day or two. The photograph shows foam being used to extinguish burning oil.
