Injured soccer rep. may be back soon
_ The . New Zealand and Christchurch United right-back, G. Davis, who has been out of soccer action since he broke two bones in his right wrist in April, is hopeful of being cleared by his doctor tomorrow to play again.
And if he has good news, Davis would still have time to get match fit and retain his place in the national team to play Wales in Auckland on July 10. The doctor will decide tomorrow whether Davis can have the plaster encasing his wrist and arm removed, and replaced, probably, by a strap which would allow Davis to play again. “The doctor is optimistic that everything will be all right this time,” Davis said last evening. He has been in full training with the United team on two evenings a week, arid if considered fit by the coach (Mr T. C. Conley) would be considered for the club’s Gillette Chatham Cup match with University on Saturday week.
Davis and the United captain, K. France, have both received letters from the national coach (Mr B. Truman) adding them to the squad of players asked to undertake special training exercises in preparation for the matches against Wales and for the Oceanea tournament in New Caledonia in October. DACOMBE TO PLAY United will be at full strength after all for the national league match with Wellington City at English Park on Saturday. The striker, G. Dacombe, who had stitches inserted in a gash on his head last Saturday night, will again lead the attack, and the side will be unchanged for the seventh successive match.
