30 years with airline

One of the longestserving employees of Air New Zealand, Mr H. K. Ford, district manager at Christchurch, celebrated 30 years with the company yesterday. He joined Tasman Empire Airways, Ltd, as a draughtsman in 1941, a year after T.E.A.L. began operations. Later, he was an enginemaintenance and inspection assistant, and then flew as a flight engineer on the Tasman run. After leaving flying duties, Mr Ford represented the airline in Australia and Britain before becoming district manager in Auckland in 1960. From 1960 to 1966, he was manager in North America, stationed in Los Angeles, and then came to Christchurch.

Last evening, Mr Ford and his wife were entertained by members of the staff. The station engineer (Mr E. Raper), who has served in

Christchurch since 1951, when T.E.A.L. began its service to Melbourne, presented Mr Ford with a vacuum jug and flask, and a cartoon by Mr R. Gates, of the head office, which traced Mr Ford’s career.

One of the assistant general managers of the company (Mr H. M. Denton) and the manager for the New Zealand region (Mr C. W. Beresford) came to Christchurch for the function.
