Mr Rippon gives date

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright)

LONDON, June 8. The British negotiator, Mr Geoffrey Rippon, today predicted that Britain should sign a provisional agreement by the end of this year allowing entry to the European Common Market by January, 1973. Returning home from ministerial talks in Luxemburg, Mr Rippon said that no insurmountable obstacles now stood in the way of British entry.

Commenting on any possible Labour Party opposition to Britain’s entry, Mr Rippon said: “I would think it highly improbable that the Parliamentary Labour Party would vote en bloc against our entry.” He said that he hoped the application would make even further progress during the talks which are to be held on June 21 and 22.
