Although Lyttelton is frequently the final loading port for large vessels sailing overseas, not least because of its deep water and bunkering facilities, it is rare that three large vessels should make their final departure from New Zealand at Lyttelton within a few days of each other.
At present, the Shaw Savill cargo liner Canopic is completing loading wool, general cargo and refrigerated cargo for the Continent and the United Kingdom. The Hobart Star, run by Blue Star Port Lines (Management), Ltd, is also in port awaiting labour to complete loading of wool, general cargo, and refrigerated cargo for the Continent and the United Kingdom. Another Shaw Savill vessel, the Icenic, which is due in Lyttelton in a few days, will load wool, general cargo and refrigerated cargo for Mediterranean ports and the United Kingdom.
