Man dies at 104
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 6. Mr William Alexander Turkington, a life member of the Masonic Lodge, and a Justice of the Peace for 57 years, died in Auckland today at the age of 104.
Mr Turkington arrived in New Zealand in 1885 from Belfast. He developed a farm in bush country near Pahiatua and lived in the district for 22 years before moving to Matamata. In Matamata, he worked as an agent for the State Fire Insurance Company, retiring from that position about 1938.
After living in Matamata for 56 years, Mr Turkington and his wife moved to Hamilton, where they lived for six years.
Mr Turkington was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1914.
A keen bowler, he took part in the sport until he was 90. He was also a keen gardener.
