Mulley, the biggest win of his training career when he won the $15,000 S.T.C. Gold Cup (2m) at Rosehill on Saturday. Big Tree, a six-year-old chestnut gelding by Gigantic out of Ferntree, turned in a courageous ; run to win.

Big Tree, a 33/1 outsider, won by three-quarters of a length from the Victorian stayer, Wool Buyer (16/1), with the favourite, Bluelough (Pharamond—Surrey Blue), a long neck away thinji. Mulley was shaking with excitement after Big Tree’s win and admitted he “rode” the gelding hard most of the way. Son of Persia was fourth, followed by Portable, Spanish Town, Bold Boy, and Hot Summer.

The open sprint, the Naremburn Flying (7f), was won by Spillane (Arragon—Picturesque). Spillane, the favourite, won by one length and a half from Regal Rhythm (9/4) with Goree King (Alcimedes—Miss Florabunda). two lengths away third. Mona’s Joy (Gold Sovereign—Sinaloa) was fourth.
