(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright)
TURIN (Italy), May 30. Left-wing extremists ran riot through Turin and Genoa last night, fighting bitter battles with police as a wave of anti-Fascist demonstrations swept through several north Italian cities.
In Turin at least 26 police, including the city’s deputy police chief, Mr Mastronardi, and dozens of demonstrators were admitted to hospitals or received medical treatment after nearly three hours of fighting. Some 58 demonstrators
were detained after the two sides clashed with tear-gas grenades and Molotov cocktails, Turin police said. In simjlar incidents in the northern port of Genoa, where 200 Leftists ran riot, the chief of the city’s political police was injured when a heavy stone hurled by a demonstrator hit him in the stomach.
Another policeman was also hit by a stone.
