Boulders protected

The Moeraki boulders are now protected. Their 2.5 acre site near Hampden, Otago, has been reserved for scenic purposes, the Minister of Lands (Mr Maclntyre) has announced. The reserve contains the largest and most spherical of the boulders, some of which weigh several i tons and are up to 12ft in circumference. They were : formed by wave action on the soft mudstone cliffs behind the site.
