France has 22-13 win
(NZ. PA.-Reuter—Copyright) SPRINGS.
France opened its Rugby tour of South Africa with a 22-13 win against Eastern Transvaal on Saturday. The French tally of three tries, two conversions and three dropped goals to' two tries, two conversions and one penalty was a fair reflection of the game. Eastern Transvaal played with determination, and in the line-outs and set pieces its forwards were more impressive than the visiting pack. But its backs had no answer to the imaginative running and passing of th’’ French three-quarters. The penetrating running of the coloured wing, R. Bougarel was a constant source of danger to Eastern Transvaal and he made a try for W. Spanghero and scored one himself.
France’s other try scorer was M. Lasserre, J. Maso kicked a dropped goal, and P. Villepreux kicked two- conversions and two dropped goals. A. Syrydom and B. Wilkinson scored Eastern Transvaal’s tries and Wilkinson kicked a penalty and B. Dreckson two conversions.
