$30,000 left to charities

Nearly $30,000 was left to several charities from the estate of Mrs Ethel Louise Hoare (formerly Miss Croucher), a Christchurch musician, who died in March, according to the District Public Trustee (Mr V. E. Barker). The will provides a legacy of $B7OO to St George’s Private Hospital; $2OOO to the New Zealand Anglican Board of Missions for the treatment of lepers in Melanesia; $lOOO each to the Dr Bamado Homes, the Salvation Army, the Canterbury and Westland branch of the Crippled Children Society; and $2OO each to the Canterbury Society of Arts and the New Zealand Foundation for the Blind.

The will also provides for the establishment of two perpetual trusts each of $2OOO with the income payable annually to the Holy Trinity Church, Richmond, Nelson, and to the Nelson School of Music for the furthering of musical education jn Nelson.

The remainder of the estate passes to the Social Service Council of the Diocese of Christchurch for the maintenance of family cottage homes. Mrs Hoare, a former pupil of the Nelson School of Music, toured New Zealend in 1907 giving violin and piano concerts. She married and settled in Christchurch and until about five years ago taught music from her Merivale home.
