Trade with Asia
(N.Z.PA.-Reuter—Copyright) KUALA LUMPUR, May 19. New Zealand’s need to expand trade with Asia has taken on a note of urgency in the face of Britain’s impending entry to the Common Market, the leader of a New Zealand trade mission said here today. They were particularly interested in finding markets for New Zealand light machinery during their stay, he said. Tomorrow the group will have talks with Malaysia’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mohamed Khir Johari, to find ways to increase Malaysia’s imports of New Zealand products which at present stand at only 1 per cent of its exports. The trade misison, sponsored by the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation, has already tested markets in Thailand and Indonesia and will visit Singapore on Saturday.
