Anglican ball
Ten girls were presented to the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt Rev. W. A. Pyatt) and Mrs Pyatt by Mrs M. Underhill at the Anglican debutante ball last evening. The ball, which was attended by about 600, was held at the Winter Garden. The debutantes were Misses Phjlippa Parker (St Matthew’s Church, St Albans), Pauline Brown (St Columba’s Church, Hornby), Hilary Saville-Smith (St Matthew's Church, St Albans), Ruth Crowe (St Columba’s Church, Hornby), Lynn Fazackerley (St Columba’s Church, Hornby), Felicity Urh (St James’s Church, Harewood), Averill Henderson (St Peter’s Church, Upper Riccarton), Gail Jamieson (St Saviour’s Church, Sydenham), Karen Petrie (St Stephen’s Church, Shirley), Malane Parkhill (St Augustine’s Church, Cashmere). Guests of honour included the Bishop of Christchurch and Mrs Pyatt; the Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. M. Underhill) and Mrs Underhill; and the archdeacons of the Diocese of Christchurch. Floral decorations were arranged by members of St James’ Parish, Riccarton. The ball committee was as follows: the Dean of Christchurch, the Revs. B. Richards, D. Balfour, D. Castaing, Mr J. C. Cotterill, Mesdames K. O. Bathurst, J. Latham, P. Reyland, Miss C. Graham.
