FRANCE’S FIRST
Team likely to succeed (N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) SPRINGS. France opens its South African Rugby tour today, seemingly assured of a win against Eastern Transvaal. On paper, the home side, led by S. Henderson, looks to be heavily outclassed by a French team that includes 14 intemations. The speed which many of the French forwards have shown in practice this week should give them a decided advantage* in broken play. But the front-row duel should be an interesting one, for the Transvaalers have a weight advantage over M. Lasserre, J. L. Azarette and M. Yachivili. However, the French wings, R. Bougarel and J. Selliers, should prove too fast for their opponents, A. Buitendag and B. Horn, players iow past their Rugby prime and they could well be the match winners.
Rugby.'—The Otago Rugby team to play the combined North Otago-South Canterbury-Mid-Canterbury side at Oamaru next Wednesday is: L. W. Mains, M. P. Collins, G. Sims, B. A. Hunter, D. V. Colling, L. Jaffray, G. L. Colling (captain), K. Murdoch, D. A. Pescini, L. A. Clark, W. W. Townsend, J. D. Matheson, G. McGee, R. Smith, J. Adams.
