Mining stocks continue to fall in Australia
Established mining shares continued to fall in moderately active trading on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. Speculatives eased but falls were slight Oils were quiet and industrials eased marginally. The Bouganville rights dropped 5c to 240 c, C.R.A. was 10c down at 940 c, and New B.H. traded as low as 1300 c, but recovered to close 10c down at 1320 c. W.M.C. fell 6c to 422 c, but recorded a special sale of 3300 shares at 425 c. The new shares dipped 12c to 300 c. Peko eased 20c to 1050 c. Metals Exploration eased 10c to 490 c and Gt Boulder fell 10c to 250 c.
Hamersley was 5c down at 430 c, and Poseidon dropped 100 c to 3300 c. Aberfoyle, Australian Developments, B.H. South, Conwest, Kia Ora, M.1.M., Westmex and Westralian Nickel all shed sc. B.H.P. stood out with a 10c gain to 1425 c on news of the commercial oil discovery in Bass Strait. This sale marked B.H.P.’s high point for the day. Earlier sales were as low at 1410 c.
