MUSEUM MAPS

More than 1000 Canterbury maps and land sales plans of historical interest had been added to the Canterbury Museum’s archives in the last five years, the director of the museum (Dr R. S. Duff) told members of the museum Trust- Board on Thursday. The most recent additions were more than 150 roll maps deposited by the Lands and Survey Department as part of a transfer of the department’s archives to the museum. The department’s collection includes maps showing early pastoral runs, electoral districts, Roads Board districts, the spread of freeholding, and vegetation in the Canterbury area. .
