Labour support for guerrillas
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, May 20. The British Labour Party has decided to launch an appeal for funds for southern African “liberation” organisations because it considers that the party is in danger of losing Mends on the African Continent The party’s executive agreed last night to hand over unconditionally to die guerrilla movements all the money it collected, although, it said, it would like it to be spent on medical supplies and food. Mr Denis Healey, the party’s spokeman on for-
eign affairs, failed, on a show of hands, to have the executive specify that the aid was to be used for medical purposes only. Mr Healey argued, against opposition from the trade union wing of the party, that unless this was formally declared, the money could be used for arms and ammunition. Party sources say that the executive took the view that it was impossible to lay down conditions on how the money should be distributed because once it was handed over, there would be no way of checking.
