Big jackpot at Auckland

Rain Again in the big race, the Adams Memorial Gold Cup, looks an “anchor” selection for what promises to be a mammoth jackpot prize on the final night of trotting for the season in Auckland tomorrow. Going by past terminating jackpots which have opened with a sizable pool, it seems certain to be over $lOO,OOO. The last occasion on Which a terminating jackpot was held at Alexandra Park, the pool rose from $BOOO to $50,000. This time, it will start with just on $20,000 already in the pool.
Rain Again won the corresponding race on the first night of the present meeting so decisively he is the logical favourite. His chance will be strengthened by some of his rivals meeting him on worse terms.
Over the longer distance (13 furlongs against 11 furlongs) Rain Again is still on the limit, whereas. Bramble Hall and True Averil, among others have to give him a start this time.
Rain Again . has thrived since his first-night win and
he deserves to be at short odds. The main threat to him may be Globe Bay. A bad break cost him all chance last week, when he was very unsettled at the start.
He has done welt during the week and will meet Rain Again on 12 yards better terms. Pun and Robalan may be the best of the others.
Bella’s Command looks a good prospect for the second leg, the Rodney. Free-for-all, the second leg of the T.A.B. concession double. He was a fast-finishing third in a Flying Mile last week after starting from the second row. He is a proven stayer. Waiata, Con Amour, Dark Wood, and Sydney James will all carry strong support. Neither Waiata nor Con Amour had any luck in the running on the first night. One of the best races of the night should be the King Pin Mobile Stakes, which will feature a clash of the topranking youngsters Roydon Roux, Bachelor Star, Armbro Free, and Ruling Credit. Off level marks, Roydon Roux appeals as likely to carry the day. Two on-course concession doubles wifi be run. Thurber’s tap and Parisian Duke make strong appeal in the first double.
