RUGBY TRIALS

I would like to know why there is only one match to be played in the All Black trials instead of two. Why must it be taken for granted that Canterbury is the backbone of South Island Rugby? With 70 players nominated for these trials, why is it that only 30 players are selected to play?

If South Island selectors are going to be "one-eyed” about it, how can the up and coining player get recognised, especially if only one game is played? I personally think that South Island trials should be played on a wider scale. Who is to say what can be achieved by allowing every player to participate in what is supposed to be known as a South Island trial? Why not be fair and play everybody, instead of only half.—"FAIR PLAY.”

The number of trials is decided by the council of the New Zeeland Rugby Union, said Mr R. H. Duff, convener of the South Island selection panel, when asked to comment on this
