OCEANIA SOCCER
5 nations entered fff.g. Preu Association) AUCKLAND. The 1971 Oceania soccer tournament, which is to be held in Noumea later this year, has draw entries from five countries. New Caledonia, Fiji, Tahiti, Australia and New Zealand have all sent official entries for the competition, which is tentatively set down for October 29 to November 7. The secretary of the Oceania federation, Mr C. J. Dempsey, of Auckland, said yesterday that only PapuaNew Guinea had not entered and this was probably due to financial difficulties.
There will be a meeting of the emergency committee of the federation within the next two or three weeks to complete details of the tournament and to discuss the proposals which have been forwarded by different countries.
The emergency committee consists of Messrs V. Tutting (Australia), the acting president, S. Singh (Fiji), G. Fouques (New Caledonia) and Dempsey. It will meet either in Auckland or Fiji. Sir William Walkley (Australia), the first president of Oceania, has given the trophy for the tournament to be known as Oceania Cup.
