DULL TRADING ON EASIER N.Z. SHAREMARKETS

Trading was dull on an easy New Zealand sharemarket yesterday. Turnover dropped, and falls outnumbered rises 24 to 16. There was more support for the less actively traded shares and some recorded good rises but the leaders remained easy’ with price changes more pronounced. /

Quotes appeared to widen for a number of stocks, and several of the leaders had sellers on the board but no buyers. Retailers appeared to be

the firmest group on the investment boards again with i Haywrights and McKenzies 1c s higher and J. Smith 2c higher. Although F.T.C. and t Woolworths came back 1c i each. 1 Amalgamated Batteries (exi dividend), P.T.Y, Wellington; Publishing and Manawatuii were 5c higher. RISES New Zealand

Rheem recorded the best rise of the day when die shares put on 8c at 163 c. Losses by the leaders were a little more pronounced, with Alex Harvey down 3c, Fletcher 4c and N.Z. Brewleries down 2c. I T. J. Edmonds continued to retract with a loss of 5c to 220 c.
