CONCORDE COSTS
Figure now £BBsm. (NtFAKester—Copyright) LONDON. May 11. The cost of developing the Concorde, the British-French supersonic airliner. has soared to £BBsm, Mr John Davies, the Secretary for Trade and Industry, said in the House of Commons yesterday. This was an increase (in December, 1970, values) of £6om since the last estimate of £B2sm, he said. Mr Davies was being questioned about his last round of talks on the Concorde with his French counterpart, Mr Jean Chamant, on April 22. Reporting the latest estimate of development costs (in December, 1970, values) as £BBsm, he assured members of Parliament that the Government would continue to keep a close watch on the project. “WISE TO PROCEED” Asked to give the comparative costs of cancellation compared with continuing the project, Mr Davies said: "These discussions with the French do try and cover forecasts the whole time. I am concerned about the rise in the cost of Concorde, but the truth is that at this stage it would be very unwise to do other than proceed with this project”
