N.Z. Climbers’

success (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May ». The New Zealand Tierra del Fuegian climbing expedition has made the first succesful climb of Cerra Darwin, an 8000 ft peak on the tip of South America. A member of the expedition, Mr Peter Radcliffe, of Wellington, told of the ascent in a dispatch received from the expedition tonight. The ascent was made more difficult by semi-polar weather conditions. Rugged, Ant-arctic-like ice formations and glaciers contributed hazzards which had to be overcome. The climbing of Cerra Darwin adds another difficult peak to the already impressive list of New Zealand mountaineers’ achievements in Chile and South America. The seven member party comprises Peter James (Wellington), Nick Banks, Murray Taylor, Mike Andrews, and Neville Bennett all of Taranaki, and Dick Heffernan of Australia and Peter Radcliffe, of Wellington.
