CALVES TO $94 AT METHVEN
Well-grown steer calves in good condition sold regularly at $BO or more at the Methven calf sale. The yarding of 1080 head was of very good quality, and values showed the same trend as at Tinwald the previous week, most-of the principal vendors showing rises on last year’s returns.
A small pen of Charolals-Angus cross calves from T. L. Lucas topped the steer section at $94, and the same vendor had a sale of Charolais-Hereford cross steers at $BB. Sixty -two steer calves from this vendor averaged $79. Several other notable sales were obtained in the steer calf section, C. J. McLaiighlin (Methven), P. A. Groundwater (Mount Hutt), and J. P. Kane Mount Somers), had sales of steer calves at $B5, and C. A. Schlkkei (Mount Somers), a sale at $B4. Their cows were Angus or Angus-Hereford cross. Several vendors average well over $7O for their steer calves. T. L. Lueas topped the heifer calf section with a small pen of Charolals-Hereford cross calves at $Bl, while 12 Angus-Hereford cross heifers from the same vendor fetched $72.50.
Several other vendors had sales of heifers at $7O or more. Herefords from C. C. Gray (Springburn) sold at $7l, and R. J. Syme and Sons (Staveley), had a sale of Herefords at $7O. W. A. Hart (Methven), obtained $7O for the best of two pens of Angus, and C. J. McLaughlin obtained the same figure for the tops of his Angus and Angus cross. Details of principal sales were: P. C.
