ASHE WINS AGAIN

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) CHARLOTTE (North Carolina). The fourth seed, A. Ashe, won the men’s singles title at the $25,000 North Carolina National Bank open tennis tournament yesterday. He won, 6-3, 6-3 against the third seed, $. Smith (California). Ashe won $5OOO for the match. Miss C. Evert, aged 16, from Florida, won 11 straight games to trounce Miss L. Dupont, 6-2, 6-0, in the women’s singles finals. A. D. Roche and M. Riessen combined to beat Ashe and D. Ralston, 6-2, 6*o, in the men’s doubles finals, and Miss Evert joined Miss S. Stap to win, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, the women’s doubles from Misses E. Pande and J. Newberry.
