I.L.O. conference delegates
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 20. The Assistant-Secretary of Labour (Mr C. D. Macan) will represent the Government and lead the New Zealand delegation to this year’s conference of the International Labour Organisation in Geneva, beginning on June 2.
The appointment was announced in a statement by the Minister of Labour (Mr Marshall). Mr K. Coveny, the divisional director of employment and immigration. Department of Labour, Wellington, will be the second Government delegate. Mr Marshall said he had approved as non-Govemment nominations Mr A. F. Crothall, the vice-president of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation (delegate) and Mr N. M. West, the director of the Canterbury Employers’ Association (adviser), representing employers, and Mr T. E. Skinner, the president of the Federation of Labour (delegate) and Mr H. F. Gallagher, national councillor of the F.O.L. (adviser). Among items for discussion would be the world employment programme, in which New Zealand is participating through its contribution to the Asian manpower plan, and the facilities and protection to be afforded to workers’ representatives in their jobs, said Mr Marshall.
In adidtion, apartheid and aspects of the structure of the 1.L.0. were likely to be discussed. Mr Marshall said that the Government delegates would also have discussions on the immigration subsidy scheme while overseas.
