ST BEDE’S TOPS POINTS AGAIN

Although winning only one i of the Individual grades, St , Bede's College topped the point* aggregate for th* boys' , Inter-secondary school athletics championship* for the second ’ successive year. With 441 point* St Bede's was three clear of Burnside High School. Shirley Boys’ High School held ; a secure third place but competition for the other rankings was close, with only single points separating several of the schools. (The top rankings in the four grade* were divided amongst three schools. St Bede’s topped the senior division, Shirley Boys’ High School the intermediate and junior, and Burnside the under 14. St Bede’s athletes gained points in the senior grade by taking three firsts and by being second or third in another six of the 16 events. St Msrgaret’s College claimed the points championship in the girls’ championships for at least the fifth year in succession. The contest was an exciting one, with St Margaret’s retaining its top ranking by only one point from Villa Maria College. Over-euthustasm probably cost Christchurch Giris’ High School the distinction of breaking St Margaret’s run in the points championship. After appearing to win the senior 4 x 100 metres relay, Christchurch had the frustration of being disqualified for changing the baton in advance of the changing sone.
