N.Z.-made cars enter

Three of the New Zealandmade Begg 5-litre Formula A cars have been entered for the 30-lap, single-seater feature race at the Canterbury Car Club’s Ruapuna Park racing circuit tomorrow.

The latest monocoque FM4 Begg car will be driven by G. Mardon, who led the field and the single-seater championship at Timaru in January until a wire dropped off his car’s ignition-switch and put him out The other two Beggs, earlier models, will be driven by R. Thomson, of Invercargill, and the Ashburton driver, N. Doyle. Mardon’s sternest challenge may come from R. Francevic, in the New Zealand-built Katipo V 8 Formula A car, which was challenging for the lead in the last Ruapuna single-seater race when the car’s rear suspension collapsed.

About 17 cars are expected to start in the feature race, and there will be a full programme of supporting events.

Rugby visitors. The Parramatta (Sydney) Rugby Club’s senior team will open a 10-day visit to New Zealand with a game against the High School Old Boys' senior side at Straven Road this afternoon. The manager (Mr R. Phelps) toured New Zealand with the Wallabies in 1855 and 1958.
