Hearing to be open to press

(Prom Our Own tieporter) WELLINGTON, March 12. The proceedings of the Local Bills Committee during the taking of evidence on the Christchurch City Reserves Empowering Bill will be open to the presses soon as Parliamentary permission is asked. This was made clear in Parliament today by the chairman of the committee (Mr L. F. Sloane). Mr B. G. Barclay (Labour, Christchurch Central), who introduced the bill originally to the House, asked the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Seath), whether he, as the Minister for Local Government, would take immediate steps to ensure that the proceedtags should be opened to

accredited news media representatives and to the public. “This is a matter for the House to decide," Mr Seath said. A supplementary question by Mr Barclay (“why didn’t you make this decision last year?”) was disallowed.
