Tallow cargo
Although large quantities of bulk tallow are regularly shipped out of Lyttelton in the tanks of conventional shipping, it is rare that a tanker calls at the port for this purpose only. Today, the small 1997-ton Japanese tanker Uko Maru is due here from Beauty Point, Tasmania, especially for this purpose. The Uko Maru will load between 400 to 500 tons of bulk tallow here and will complete at Timaru and Bluff. at Timaru and Bluff. The cargo is for Japan.
