Good year for Safe Air
Bristol Freighter aircraft of Safe Air, Ltd, last year carried a record tonnage of cargo round New Zealand. During .1970 the airline hauled 59,087 tons, compared with 50,157 tons in 1969. The best previous year was 1966, when a total load of 55,421 tons was carried.
Safe Air last year also flew a record number of revenueproducing flights, 15,369, compared with the previous best of 14,904 in 1966. On these flights the Bristol fleet flew 11,916 hours, compared with 9854 last year and their busiest year, 12,246 hours, in 1967.
The company’s Bristols equipped for the Chathams passenger service flew 220 trips last year, 35 less than in 1969. Reflecting the decline in the crayfishing industry the number of passengers fell slightly to 3047 from the 3762 of the previous year. During 1970 the aircraft carried 34,391 sheep, 3032 pigs, 151 horses and 761 cattle.
