Giltman fined

SYDNEY.

Australian Davis Cup squad member, R. Giltinan was fined $3O yesterday on each of two charges under the National Service Act after he admitted he had made two overseas tours without the permission of the Department of Labour and National Service.

The Sydney court was told that Giltinan, aged 21, who has been called up for National Service, had made the tours one a privately arranged one to several countries between February and October, 1070, and the other, arranged by the Lawn Tennis Association of Australia, to New Zealand, in early February, 1971. The Court was told that he had been unaware that he was breaching the law by not obtaining permission, and in fining Giltinan, the Magistrate said it was noted that he was not attempting to evade his obligations for National Service, but it was Just a case of his having failed to get permission.
