We require an experienced practical scientist to lead a new division concerned with research on performance requirements of building components. Responsibilities will include planning and provision for acoustic, thermal, hydrothermal and structural testing of building components and the establishment of appropriate New Zealand requirements for thermal comfort in relation to insulation and ventilation rates, sound insulation, durability and weathering properties and the more economical use of materials in design. A good honours degree or equivalent in chemistry, physics or engineering plus research or industrial experience is expected. Salary will be according to qualifications and experience up to $7250 p.a. SECTION HEADS, ACOUSTICS AND THERMAL PROPERTIES 2 and 3. Two Physicists or physical chemists required. The first should be capable of leading a small team conducting research and testing on the acoustic properties of building materials and components.
