LONDON, February 26 The Ford Motor Company of the United States is considering setting up a $64,290,000 engine plant in Australia.
A company spokesman said that the new plant could be built in Australia, on the Continent, or in South America but definitely not in Britain. Britain had been ruled out because of constant industrial turmoil. I Since 1967, there have; been more than 350 strikes at Ford factories in Britain—--155 last year. ; The spokesman said that no decision had been made; on the site for the new plant.) “It is a long-range plan, catering for the needs of the; car-buying public in the 1980 s,” the spokesman said. “The two important factors to be considered are the industrial relations of workers in the country where the site is chosen, and that the site is geographically suitable for exports to be carried out readily and cheaply.”
