NATIONAL DIVING
Successful comeback (From our swimming reporter) PALMERSTON NORTH. Miss K. Conway (Bay of Plenty) made good her return to competition when she won the women’s one-metre springboard title on the second day of the national swimming and diving championships yesterday. After being beaten narrowly by Miss M. Lay (Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay) for the three-metre title the previous day. Miss Conway produced several excellent dives on the way to yesterday’s victory. In the three-metre event just over two points separated these two divers, but yesterday Miss Lay did not dive as well and dropped to third place. The defending champion. Miss B. Ewert (Bay of Plenty), was second. Miss Conway scored 458.6 points, Miss Ewart 442.74 and Miss Lay 429.66. M. Glazley (Wellington) retained his three-metre title when he beat C. Buscke (Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay) by 574.59 points to 567.84. His total was more than 40 points better than he scored last year.
D. Gear (Hawke’s BayPoverty Bay) was third with 439.89.
