Opinion 75 p.c. in favour

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 26. A public opinion poll had shown that 75 per cent of the people were in favour of some form of wage restraint, said the Minister of Finance (Mr Muldoon) in Parliament today. Speaking on the introduction of the Stabilisation of Remuneration Bill, he said he was astonished that the Labour Party had not contributed to the debate. Many people looked on them as the alternative government and the people wanted to see their alternative on this issue, not in detail but on the principle.

Mr Muldoon said he had seen a public opinion poll which showed that 75 per cent favoured some form of wage restraint. Twenty per cent were against, and about 5 per cent had no opinion. “The Labour Party represents that odd 5 per cent,” lie said.
