FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An active trough of low pressure is moving away to the east of the North Island and is maintaining a cool southwest airstream over the country; an anticyclone in the south-west Tasman Sea is moving east towards New Zealand. Forecast: Canterbury.—Light to moderate variable winds, some morning cloud but otherwise fine; becoming mild in the afternoon but cool again tonight. Marlborough, Nelson, Buller and Westland.—Fresh but decreasing southerly winds about the Marlborough Sounds; elsewhere light to moderate variable winds; fine; mild during the day but cool tonight.
