Although there were signs that there might be a break in the weather in the early part of this week, up to the middle of the week much of the province was getting increasingly dry again. The Winchmore irrigation research station reported on Wednesday that the soil-moisture deficit on unirrigated land had been 200 points or greater on 65 days to date this season, compared with 50 days at the same time last season.
