C.S.S.O. ‘no happier'

■ <N.’Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 25. After almost three hours of discussions with the Government tonight the secretary of the Combined State Service Organisations (Mr D. P. Long) said his executive was “clearer, but no happier” about the Government's Stabilisation of Remuneration Bill.

Members of bls large deputation were concerned that the legislation contained a section dealing especially with state servants in a way which he said many members would feel discriminated against, Mr Long said. The Government had refused to hold out this section.

Mr Long and his deputation had talked for almost two hours on the bill last night with the chairman of the Cabinet Committee on State Services (Mr Taiboys).

Mr Long said that whereas outside employees would have to put their case for increases to the remuneration authority only if their claim was in excess of 7 per cent, the state servants would have to go to the authority for any increase, even any small increase in allowances. The authority would virtually become the state servants wage-setting body.
