Adjourned inquest

(N.Z. Pres* Atsociatlon) TIMARU, Feb. 25. An inquest into the death of an unidentified man—believed to be one of three deserters from the American forces in Panama who jumped overboard from the Port Caroline—was formally opened at Timaru. After hearing evidence from three members of the crew of the 19,000-ton Port Caroline, now in port at Timaru, the Coroner (Mr E. G. Bradley) adjourned the proceedings to Christchurch sine die. The body is believed to be that of one of the. three Americans Bobby Gene Cothren, aged 19, Thomas John Sanson, aged 19, both soldiers, and Stephen Wayne Morris, aged 21, a naval rating—who were presumed drowned after jumping overboard 10 miles off Banks Peninsula on February 10.
