Playwriting contest

The winning entries in the Ngaio Marsh Playwriting Competition will probably be announced on March 15. This was the first television playwriting contest to be held in New Zealand, and the response was enthusiastic: 398 entries were received. Several authors in the competition had written plays for radio previously, but one of the conditions of the contest was that writers must not have had plays produced on N.Z.B.C. television before. Three prizes of $5OO will be awarded to the winners of three sections —television thriller of 50 minutes duration, and a play, other than a thriller, of similar length. There are two prizes in this category —one for an author 26 or older and the other for a writer 25 or younger.
