An Amberley cropping, grazing and fattening property of 461 acres with a Government valuation of $64,650 was sold for $73,765 or $l6O an acre at auction attended by about 20 persons on Wednesday. Bidding began at $lOO an acre and rose in units of $lO to $l6O an acre. The land is divided into 22 paddocks and has 86 acres fallow, 241 acres in lucerne and 20 acres in pasture. Two small areas are taken up by pinus and bluegum plantations. Stock includes 1100 ewes and 200 wether hoggets. A two-bedroomed house, three-bay implement shed, woolshed, new sheepyards and filtered swimming pool are on the property. The property was offered by Pyne, Gould, Guinness Ltd, and the auctioneer was Mr W. H. Archdale. A commercial site of 31.5 perches at 119 Kilmore Street was sold for $36,000 at auction. The Government valuation was $24,000. Bidding began at $25,000 and rose in units of $lOOO to $33,000 and then in bids of $5OO to $36,000. An old factory, offices and a storeroom are on the site. Twenty-five persons attended. The auctioneer was Mr D. O. Chapman of Ford and Hadfield, Ltd. A Cheviot property of 207 acres freehold was passed in at $260 an acre. The Government valuation was $52,400. The land, on Mina Road, is subdivided into 16 paddocks and has 36 acres in wheat, 30 acres in barley, 36 acres in grass and clover seed, and the rest in permanent pasture. It carries 650 breeding ewes. Buildings are a three-bed-roomed house and double garage, a new implement shed, steel haybam, 2.45 ton silos, granary and sheepyards. The property was offered by the NMA Company of New Zealand, Ltd, in conjunction with the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. Association, Ltd. The auctioneer was Mr W. R. Flannagan.
