University site

Sir,—Regarding the fate of the University’s town site, is there any reason why the city should not purchase these buildings and convert them into an adjunct of the Canterbury Museum, to which they are an architectural complement? The museum is short of space; the university buildings should provide sufficient room for expansion for some time to come. The patchwork restructuring of the interior which has destroyed the buildings’ character, could be removed to reveal the original high-ceilinged corridors and halls, and should make an ideal showplace for museum displays.—Yours, etc., LECTURER. February 24, 1971.
