23 GIRLS LOST
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 23. A frantic search developed in Auckland today for 23 French schoolgirls scattered over the city, who were unaware that they were booked on an Air New Zealand flight to Nandi, late in the afternoon. The girls, all from Noumea, were to have left tomorrow on a U.T.A. French airline flight for Noumea, but a dispute has grounded ail the airline’s planes. The girls for the last
three weeks had attended the Diocesan High School on exchange, and were spending their last days in New Zealand sightseeing. Today most of them left their billets early in tile morning, and two decided to look at Ruakaka, more than 70 miles north of Auckland. Soon after 9 a.m. the search for the girls began. By mid-afternoon they had all been found and the two who had ventured to Ruakaka were rushed back to Auckland by taxi.
